Hi! I'm Jo Hoye!

I'm a student at George Mason University, set to graduate in May of 2025. My major is Communications with a concentration in Journalism. I also have a double minor in English and Dynamic Publishing. I'm a writer and editor by trade, with experience in fiction and academic editing, as well as fiction, academic, and research writing. I'm currently the editorial assistant at the online pedagogical journal Teaching & Learning Inquiry.

I've helped edit articles from Volume 11, Volume 12 and Volume 13. Check out the journal to see what kind of work I do.

Work and Education Experience

Writing Tutor/Annandale High School

I got my start as an editor in high school, tutoring other students on their essays and other written assignments. It was here that I realized how much I love writing and editing. Responsibilities of this job included organizing meetings with students, helping students brainstorm, write, and edit assignments, training other tutors, and organizing workshops to reach a higher number of students at a time.

Research Assistant/George Mason University

In the summer of 2023, I spent some time as a research assistant for a study on the barriers between minorities and access to domestic violence services. During this study, I helped gather and code data, interview community leaders, interpret data, and write an article about the data I collected. I also created a presentation, which I then presented to county domestic violence services to inform them about the barriers I discovered in my research, and how they could work towards equity in the community members they reached.

Editorial Assistant/Teaching & Learning Inquiry

I currently work as an editorial assistant here. My main duties are copyediting submitted articles for publication using our special in-house Chicago manual of style. I also do data entry and other upkeep tasks for the journal. Articles for Teaching & Learning Inquiry are published on a rolling basis, with each volume including publications from a certain year. As such, I have helped edit articles for Volume 11, Volume 12, and now Volume 13.
